Shower repair and installation with CW Service Pros
CW Service Pros's expert technicians use a range of techniques to locate and fix plumbing problems. Our professional plumbers have the skills and expertise you need for a job well done. Have a question or don’t see your problem below? Just ask!
- Showerhead and faucet repair and replacement — If your showerhead or tub faucets are rusty, leaky, or just plain old, we can repair or replace them. Choose a low-flow showerhead to save water and reduce your utility bills, select a chrome fixture for easy cleaning, or have us install a faucet that you have purchased.
- Leak location and repair — Common places for leaks include the showerhead, the shower door, the tile surround, and the shower pan. We can test for the sources of hidden leaks, both behind the walls and under the shower pan.
- Drainage problems — If the shower drain is the only thing that's affected, unclogging it is typically a simple repair: Snaking the drain line and using a non-caustic biological drain aide is usually recommended. If the sewer line is affected, the process can be more involved and might dictate repairing or replacing the line, something in which our experts are proficient.
- A change in water pressure — This is usually due to an issue with the showerhead, such as lime scale build-up in hard water areas. Installing a descaler could be the solution to those mineral build-ups.
- Shower and tub installation — Update your old shower or tub to a sleek new model, and have the work done by one of our plumbing experts. We offer a range of quality name brands for our customers.
How Long Does it Take to Install a Shower or Tub?
The average installation for a single unit shower or tub takes approximately one to two days. The time requirement depends on the kind of unit being installed, required inspections, and any demolition work that has to be done to remove the old unit. If the project is more complicated or if tile has to be laid, the project may take several days to finish.
During an installation, your toilet and sink can still be used most of the time, but there may be some short periods when the bathroom is not be usable. We always do our best to minimize the disruption, and we'll even remove old shower, tub, tiles, and components from your property once we've finished the demolition.

If You See One of These, You May Have a Shower Problem.
If you have any of the issues we outlined above, or another problem with your shower, you might notice one or more of these symptoms of the problem:
- A dripping showerhead
- Reduced water pressure
- Unpredictable water temperature- This may be a sign of a water heater problem or a slab leak but is sometimes related to the water mixing valve that feeds the showerhead.
- The shower draining slowly or not at all
- Gaps in the caulk that seals the tile, tub, and shower pan
- A cracked shower pan or hole in the shower base lining
- Warping in the walls around the shower-This may indicate a hidden leak.
- Recurring mildew or mold, usually caused by water damage
When Do You Need to Call a Plumber for Shower Repair?
Sometimes you can DIY a shower problem, but others need a bit more expertise to fix. These include most of the issues listed above. It also includes any trouble you have solving a problem on your own. For example, if you've tried unclogging the shower drain, but it's still not flowing freely, calling a plumber is the next step. If you suspect a leak but can't find the source, contacting a plumber is definitely a good idea.
Hoping to get rid of your old shower or tub before installing a new one? A skilled professional plumber can handle the demolition and install your new unit for a freshly remodeled bathroom.
Shower Repair Versus Replacement
If your shower has one or two small problems, some simple repairs will likely get it running properly again, but there are cases where replacement of shower parts, shower valves, or the entire shower might be better options.
Repair:
- A showerhead with the lime scale buildup can be cleaned; as long as the showerhead is otherwise in good condition, replacement shouldn't be necessary.
- If the shower is leaking from the showerhead or handle, a repair may be the solution.
- If the shower made up of separate components-such as surround, door, and pan-it's often possible to replace the single problem component without affecting other parts.
- A tub can generally be refinished to look like new. While this can be more expensive than buying a new tub, some people choose this option because they like the look of the tub they already have.
Repair:
- If your showerhead is an older model, replacing it is a good idea.
- If your showerhead is rusting and dirty, replace it!
- A shower or tub may need to be replaced if its surfaces are worn, chipped, or cracked in multiple areas.
- If the shower is made up of separate components-such as surround, door and pan-and one side of the stall is seriously damaged, the entire unit might need to be replaced.
- If you simply want a fresh look in your bathroom, replacing some outdated fixtures may be the best choice.
Consider this: Replacing a showerhead with a low-flow model will save you both water and money!
Before making a repair or replacement, keep in mind the cost, but also think about the long-term solution to the problem, the time you intend to own your home, and what type of unit is considered normal for your neighborhood.
Shower and Tub Replacement Options
- Elegantly designed and finished faucets and handles
- A separate, enclosed shower with a frameless or semi-frameless door
- A customized shower with body spray jets and handled faucets
- A walk-in shower and tub with an easy-close swing door - These particularly convenient for people with reduced mobility.
- A residential steam shower enclosure with benches and a rain-head faucet that streams water from directly overhead
How Do I Prevent Shower Problems?
Once your shower is in good working order, there are a few things you can do to keep it that way.
- Place a mesh drain cap in the shower drain to help prevent clogs, and use a non-corrosive drain cleaner once a month to catch anything that does get through. A biological drain aide will not cause damage to fixtures, piping, or glues that hold the piping together.
- Keep your showerhead running freely by cleaning it with white vinegar. To do this, fill a plastic bag with vinegar, and tie it around the showerhead with a rubber band. Leave it to soak for several hours, then remove the bag and scrub away the remaining debris with a sponge.
- Reduce the risk of mold and mildew by ventilating the bathroom properly when the shower is in use. Open a window, or turn on a ceiling fan. After using the shower or tub, wipe it down with a sponge or squeegee to remove excess moisture.
- Perform an annual inspection to check for problems such as cracking or flaking grout and caulk, so these can be fixed quickly.
- Periodically run water in tubs and showers that are not frequently used in order to keep the handles lubricated and the inner workings from seizing up.
