If you are stuck for something to do this winter, why not investigate the many musical offerings of North Texas? The region hosts festivals and concerts throughout the year, giving residents and visitors plenty of opportunities to while away evenings with good company and great entertainment. One such event is the upcoming Plano Symphony Orchestra Knockout Concert. The concert, sponsored by The Horween Foundation, features musical favorites Time for Three, alongside conductor Hector Guzman.
Who are they?
Time for Three is a string trio consisting of university friends—Nicholas Kendall and Zachary De Pue on violins and Ranaan Meyer on the bass—who got their start playing together as students at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. Since then, they’ve only gotten more impressive. The three are known for their memorable mixture of showmanship and virtuosity. They’ve got a string of impressive achievements under their belts, including a performance at Carnegie Hall. Regular performers in Texas, they even closed the state’s music festival in 2014. Their broad repertoire includes everything from modern pop favorites to classical pieces by composers such as Bach and Brahms.
When and where can I see them?
The concert, scheduled to start at 8:00 PM, will take place on Saturday, February 20. It’s being held at the Eisemann Center, located at 2351 Performance Drive, just off U.S.-75 in Richardson. Parking costs $5, or you can travel to Gatalyn Park Station on the DART Light Rail Red Line and get to the venue from there.
How much does the concert cost?
Tickets are available from the Plano Symphony Orchestra website and are sold at a range of prices, depending on your seating area. They go for as little as $13 to $85 for the premium seats. The venue features wheelchair areas, including companion seats, a balcony, and even luxury lounges.
What kind of music will I hear?
Time for Three is known for its varied performances, featuring mixtures of folk tunes, bluegrass, and even mash-ups of favorites such as Katy Perry and The Beatles. The Knockout Concert will include renditions of “Danny Boy,” performances of works from Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, and even movie themes from hits such as Schindler’s List, played alongside the Plano Symphony Orchestra. With a range of music to suit everyone’s tastes, this is a great chance to have an evening out with the family doing something unique, a quiet night on your own, or even a memorable evening with a date. If you find yourself at a loss for something to do in February or can’t get enough of good music played well, this is an excellent highlight in a cold winter weekend.
