Based in the Medical Center Grand Theater Center for the Creative Arts (MCL Grand), the Visual Art League (VAL) is an organization dedicated to promoting and celebrating fine crafts and visual arts. Run entirely by volunteers, the VAL’s primary goals are to provide a diverse and enriching experience to all members of the local community and to encourage creative expression. It provides a wide range of workshops, performances, exhibitions, and interactive events to suit all tastes.
Something for Everyone
If you aren’t a musician or artist, you may not think a community of art aficionados is the right place for you. But even if you would rather listen and watch than participate, the VAL has something to float your boat. Learn about art at the VAL’s Art Talks, or take a leisurely walk through one of the eclectic exhibits. This wide-ranging community also offers a great opportunity to get to know people in your area and participate in an ongoing enrichment effort for Lewisville as a whole. Every voice is welcome. You may even find yourself inspired to create art of your own!
Monthly Meetings
Members of the VAL get together regularly on the second Tuesday of the month, and like most VAL functions, the public is welcome to attend. These meetings usually include demonstrations, lectures, and a brief business meeting. At times, particularly throughout the summer, these meetings also take the form of paint-ins, group outings, or other informal events.
Acoustic Fridays
Every week at the MCL Grand Theater, the League also sponsors Acoustic Fridays. Running from 7 to 10 PM, these sessions are open to all and free of charge. Take along your instruments, join in with the songs, or simply go to listen. Artists are welcome to bring sketchbooks and take advantage of the inspiring atmosphere.
Regular Exhibitions
Even if you do not consider yourself artistic, you may be keen to see the work produced by local creative talent. The VAL hosts four exhibits at the Grand Theater’s expansive Art Gallery each year, along with numerous rotating exhibits in the Grand’s Lobby and North Wing. Members of the VAL also have work on display at the Commercial Bank of Texas and Tierney’s Café and Tavern. Whether you are an aspiring, a practiced artist, or you don’t consider yourself artistic at all; whether you want to enjoy the work of others, or you simply want to get involved in your community, the VAL has something for everyone. And if you’re a business owner keen to do your bit for Lewisville, you may be able to lend your support to this community by arranging exhibits within your business outlets. The Visual Art League of Lewisville is a true masterpiece. Check it out today!
